EXPO LiBERAtiON jOURNAL

Other people are responsible for continuing this type of oppression are people like the government. The government should give more jobs to people . This type of oppression about poverty can be seen /witnessed /noticed because you can see when people have money or not. They don’t have enough food and sometimes they run out of food and so they don’t eat. Poverty creates many barriers in peoples lives because it interfere you want to achieve in life. For example when you live in poverty is a barrier because people don’t go to school and so they don’t get the education they should have. This happens because sometimes many people are not able to afford for school supplies ,and uniform. And so instead they have to work to be able to live. People who have experience poverty can feel worried and sad because they don’t have enough money to buy the things they want or need.

EXPO OPRESSiON jOURNAL

Our community would be more safe without this type of harm, because everyone would be able to earn money. People would be able to live happy and have all basic needs without this oppression. Our community would feel more powerful, to have a lot of money. Fruit vale would be more safety, children would be running, playing around and it would be more cleaner and nicer to be out there. Fruit vale residents would believe that Oakland is a safe place for their children and that it’s a nice place where they could live at. Fruit vale would have a secure place for every race and culture. Our community would experience joy through happiness and being able to live their life full of happiness.

ABOUt ME bLOq

I am a student at Urban Promise Academy who is an 8th grader.I am 13 years old and I was born in Ventura,California. At school I am really shy I don't like to talk at all. I have always tried my best at school so one day I could go to college and be an important person in this world.I like to be respectful to other people so they could be respectful with me. I am friendly, nice, shy and calm. I don't like violence at all I hate it. I like to help the teachers at my school so they could help me when I need their help. I like to be calm because I am not violent person. I love my parents a lot because they are always there for me when am sad. They are all I want in my life. I also love my brother and sister. They are the reason why I have a smile every day. They are sometimes mean with me but I don't really care. I tried to make my family proud of myself by trying to get good grades and trying my best at the school. I want to try my best to go to college and study something that will make my family proud of myself.

EXPO REfLECtiON POSt ON tHE EXPERiENCE

What I liked most about the process was that everyone got to share at least one thing and that everyone was brave enough to share one personal experience. I has challenges with the asking question part of the process because I didn't ask questions to our community members or the girls that were in my group so that was a challenge I had. The main area I can improve upon for next time is asking questions because I didn't ask at least one question so I need to improve on asking questions. What I am most proud of is the way that I shared some experiences and talked a little bit loud. I appreciate everyone who came to EXPO and were brave enough to share some personal experiences, I also want to appreciate Ms.Jonhson for preparing us for the 30 minute discussion we had. Every one was being respectful with every one. Everyone got to share every answer to every question. Everything in the 30 minute discussion was going great everyone shared and were friendly. At the very last everyone got to appreciate everyone that was at the30 minute discussion. In our 30 minute discussion we talked about what are some experiences that we have passed through. We also talked about what causes people oppression in the way of being poverty. We also talked about what are some ways that we can liberate poverty. Everyone gave a lot of examples.

I wish I could cross the other side of the bridge
I wish I wasnt treated as an animal and was treated as a
human with equal rights
I wish everyday of my life was full of happiness and not sadnes                              I
wish
I could brake this chains that are holding us from the freedom
that is waiting for me

I wish I could be free and spread my wings and fly to the other side of the brid

My MASk POEM

We wear the mask that shows the brightness of our shinny eyes
We wear the mask to not show the past and show the future that will make us better
We wear the mask to not show the sadness and show the happiness from the outside of us
We wear the mask that shows the beautifulness of the things that we have past through but that has hide the bad things that we have live through
We wear the mask to show the shininess of your eyes and that will hide the bad times we have pass through
We wear the mask to show the beautiful things that we are passing through
We wear the mask to let our fear and live the beauty that is waiting for us
